Choose an appropriate environment.

Practice in intentionally designed exercises, your own isolated systems, or environments where the owner has clearly authorized the activity. Follow the written rules for any lab or program.

Understand the scope.

Authorization is specific: the systems, activities, timing, and limits matter. Ask the owner when the boundaries are unclear. A system being publicly reachable is not permission to test it.

Protect information.

Use fictional data where possible. Avoid collecting or sharing credentials and personal information. Document observations carefully without exposing sensitive material.

Explain the reasoning.

The value of learning is understanding why a decision helps and communicating it clearly. A useful explanation connects a risk, an observation, and a proportionate protective action.
